Need recommendations for hotels and great food (yeah right) in London...help!?

My friend and I are taking her 6 year old to London next year. We need some recommendations on a great place to stay in London and some restaurant recommendations. I went to London over 10 years ago and don't remember the food being that great. Any recommendations gladly accepted.

Travel Tips

I always recommend the Strand Palace in the West End, right by Covent Garden:

The location is fantastic, literally across the street from the Savoy, easy walking distance to Soho, Leicester Square, Trafalgar Square, Parliament, the Thames, etc. As for food, personally I think the pubs are far better than most people understand. Yes, some of the cheaper restaurants leave a lot to be desired, but the pub fare is well-priced and usually pretty good by US standards.
