I'm going to London in the summer of 2006. Any tips from people who have been?

I'm graduating in May but will still need one class in the summer to receive my diploma. I figured what better way to end my college career than to take the class in London! I want to know how to make the most of my month there - I'm staying the whole month of August. Where should I go - even in surrounding countries? Also, what are some essentials to pack?
