What is the cost of living in Aberdeen, UK. I might be relocating for work with my twin daughers that are 16.? |
Travel Info Is it a place where teens can have fun and meet other kids or is it rural and hard to meet people. Are the people nice? If anyone has lived here or knows about it, I would highly appreciate some information on Aberdeen, UK (Scotland). Travel Tips Aberdeen can be a bit expensive, but it depends on where you live now as a comparison. Example, I live in Berkshire and Aberdeen is a lot cheaper, but if you lived in the Midlands, you might find it more expensive. One word of caution, if you are buying a house - get someone to explain the buying process in Scotland. It's very different. At the moment the property market is very hot . You can find yourself buying property which goes to Market at say 拢100k and sells for 拢135k! I'd suggest a visit to the Aberdeen Property Centre. Details below. There are a lot of activities for teens. The city sports and leisure services are excellent. For teens you could consider rural, but make sure there is a decent bus service. The girls will soon be driving, so this is maybe not a huge concern. If you are living in the city, I'd suggest the West End or Ferryhill area. It really depends on what your needs are, and if commuting to work is a concern. Agree with Vicki about Stonie - it's a lovely town. But I would say it takes more than 10 mins, especially in rush hour!! Source(s): www.aspc.co.uk Other Travel Tips I would not suggest bringing your 16 year old daughters there, they will end up on drugs(if they aren't already). You could bring them to my house though. Twins you say??? Aberdeen is a great place, but it is expensive to live there. Have a look at www.aspc.co.uk website for an idea of house prices. If you are looking to rent, all i know is that you won't get a decent one bedroom flat for under 拢400 a month! You might want to consider living in a place called Stonehaven which is 10 minutes by car south of Aberdeen. It is a costal town with lots of countryside, nice walks, a harbour and a beach. It's very picturesque and the people are friendly. Aberdeen is busy and a big city but i love it. There are loads of shops, shopping centres, things to do and the nightlife is great. If you have a look at the Aberdeen City website, you can see it from the three webcams they have. (Just do a search for 'Aberdeen webcam'). It depends on where you're from and what your lifestyle is like, but i'm sure you'd like Aberdeen. I think there are a lot worse places you could come to. Aberdeen is a fairly large city in the North East of Scotland. Plenty to do for teens & parents alike. Right on the coast. House prices fairly reasonable. A selection of fairly good schools. Fresh air. Low crime rate. The Aberdonian people are the friendliest in Scotland, always ready to help anyone. I suggest you try visiting websites for Visit Aberdeen - tourist information Aberdeen Solicitors Property Centre (ASPC) - property for sale/lease. When arriving in Aberdeen the local dialect can prove difficult especially since everyome speaks very fast here. A goof ice breaker is if you sat "Fit Like?" - it means how are you. You will love it here. Aberdeen's cold, windy and dull! - My mate went to uni there! - If you do move there -make sure you lock your daughters up! I've lived in Aberdeen for 10 years. it's a beautiful place, it is all made of granite, so on dark days can appear a bit grey (not dull). It's a small city, easily managed and very compact. The property is moving fast and as someone mentioned. The Scottish legal system is very different from the English (as is the school system). There is an awful lot of money in the city because of the oil, as a result things can be expensive and cheaper things (used cars for instance) can be hard/impossible to get here as there is an expectation fo wealth. It is not as expensive as people claim however. IT is a friendly place but not overly so, Aberdonians are friendly, but reserved. You and your children will enjoy it. It's a clean, cultured and safe place to live. |
