I need to ship my dog; is there a company/service that will go on the plane with her? Is flying best? |
Travel Info I'm afraid that my dog will get hurt or get too scared if she is in the cargo hold; I'm sending her cross-country and can't go with her, is there some way that I can arrange for someone else to go on the plane with her so she doesn't have to go in cargo? Travel Tips There once was a man who worked on the ground crew at Chicago O'Hare Airport. One particularly snowy, wintery day he had just finished loading up a flight's luggage when he saw what looked like an animal cage on the ground. He rushed over to it but unfortunately, the dog inside was dead and frozen solid. Frantic, he read the tag and found out quickly which flight and passenger it was for. He quickly brought the cage inside and called a friend who happened to work at a pet store. Quickly, the airline worker explained the situation and described the dog, including unique marks and size. Wanting to ease the worries of not only the family but also of his friend, the pet store worker quickly found a dog matching that description and rushed it out to O'Hare. They met right at the worker's security zone. By now, the airline worker had recruited several others to help and they rushed the new dog in the old cage to baggage claim, being sure to switch the collar and repeating the name of the previous dog over and over, hoping it would learn it's new name. Happy that the dog was taking to its new name, the baggage handlers carried the pet cage out to baggage claim. A man in a suit and nice overcoat approached and looked at the cage and said, "That's not my dog." Shocked at how quickly he knew, the baggage handler tried to cover up his lie. He asked if he was sure and pointed out that the tags were clearly matched to the claim slip he was holding. The man answered, "I'm positive it isn't my dog. My dog's dead. I was bringing him back home to bury it!" Others Most will send her cargo - I know there are a few airlines that will do it even if you don't fly. A couple other options www.craigslist.com - under ride share catagory - you could post an ad for free for someone to move your pet with them or try http://www.wemovepets.com/ Depends on the size of the dog whether she can travel in the cabin of an airplane. She must be able to fit underneath the seat in a kennel. There is a charge of $85 plus the airplane ticket of someone to fly with her. I don't think there is a company that will ship her. I think it would be best if you just sent her with you on the same airplane in the cargo. The airlines will take care of her. You don't need to worry. you might try this service http://www.uship.com/shipping/pets/... |
