One Way Airfare vs. Round Trip? |
Travel Info If I book a trip one way for a cheap price, can I get a return trip for the same cheap price? Why do they offer such good one way prices anyway? Don't most people have to return from wherever they're going? Travel Tips Ahhh... pricing for airlines. Sometimes I think that airlines just use a random number generator... There is logic behind pricing models for airlines, but after 20 years of flying my suggestion is that you just take their word for it and not try to figure it out--and I'm a statistical computer programmer! Others the reason that they do it is because they can screw you on you're return flight like that. sometimes you may just be getting a good price cause you got lucky but usually you are better off buying a round trip ticket. plus, if you dont buy a round trip there is no gaurentee you will get a return flight for the day you want when you buy you're other ticket Round trip tickets are usually cheaper than 2 one way tickets. People travel one way because round trip tickets have a validity. The maximum is one year. So you have to return before the validity expires. Some people may not want to return in one year, like poeple who move from one place to another for study or work. Some people are also not sure how much they are going to spend before returning, so they buy one way ticket for the outgoing trip and buy another for the return. Usually you cannot get a return trip for the same cheap price. They want you to jump on the cheap deal and pay the normal fare on the way back. Sometimes the airlines also have very cheap deals when they have lots of flights for a certain date to a destination, but almost no passengers in the other directions. For example, Iran Air had a special in March for trips to Germany - because many Iranians living in Germany were flying to Iran for Nowruz. The planes going to Iran before the feast were fully booked, but returning to Germany they were almost empty. After the feast the reverse was true. Iran Air wanted to fill these empty seats - thus the special. Hope I helped. |
