Why do you need to open windows before a plane takes off and lands? |
Travel Info Why do the flight attendants always tell you to open them? the pilot can't use them since he's in front so why do you have to open the window??? Travel Tips The reason cabin managers ask passengers to open the window shade is so you remain oriented in the event of an emergency. In an emergency situation, having the shade up means you can see where potential hazards are and what to avoid once you've left the aircraft. And, if passengers are trapped inside during an emergency, the cabin will be lit well enough for rescuers to see. Dimming the cabin lights also carries the same reason; if they were on full-beam, it would be too glary to see. Source(s): Ask the Pilot, by Patrick Smith. Other Travel Tips ??? What kind of plane are we talking about, most commercial jets' windows do not open... because they want to show you the last ride of your life if it fails or not.. the only windows which can be opened are in the sides of cockpits in commercial planes... If the flight attendant tells you that, he is joking to relax you because you are frightened! The windows must be open for safety reasons. If the plane should crash the rescue crew and firefighters have a clear view inside the aircraft to rescue any survivors Pilots count in fligh attendants (and passengers) to notice any possible problems with engines and wings that cannot be seen from the cockpit. That's my best guess. |
