we are due to fly to lanzarote with our 18 month old daughter end of may we have never flew with her before does anyone have any tips on flying with her please?

Travel Tips
I have flown internationally since my kids were 2 months old (now they're 7 & 5)

For take-offs and landings, the best think you can do is if the baby is still nursing, make sure to nurse the baby. If the baby is not nursing, give her a bottle to drink (milk, water, juice - it doesn't matter) or a pacifier.

Baby formula is fine to take with you, and you are not limited to the amount you can bring aboard with you, do not worry. However, you may be asked to taste the formula by the TSA officers (usually this will only happen when you are exiting the country. http://www.tsa.gov/travelers/airtravel/c...

Another trick is that if the baby is not taking to the pacifier or wanting to drink or nurse, gently rub the neck of the baby from the chin down to the chest several times - this will cause a swallowing motion which will help with the ears popping.

Make sure to pack plenty of things to entertain your child. A few of her favorite toys, books, and any comfort things such as a blankie. And yes, you can walk around with your child once the seat belt signal is off.

Pack a few instant hot/cold cereals, instant rice, and other just-add-water packets. The stewards/stewadess' will provide you with hot or cold water upon request.

Under FAA regulations, children are not required to have their own seat until they are two. The steward/stewardess should place you in a front seat where they can give you a crib to put your son once you have reached cruising altitude. However, this is not the safest way for a child to fly and the FAA does recommend them to have their own seat, but does not mandate it because of the cost to the parents.

If you want to buy her her own seat, then I suggest buying an FAA approved safety seat to go along so that she can sit up correctly, and feel safer.

If I can be of any other help or assistance to you, feel free to contact me.

I hope that you have a happy vacation! Source(s): Husband is a pilot

Other Travel Tips
For the ear pressure for take off, landings, I suggest a sippy cup with juice to drink, so she will swallow more, to help her ears "pop". Yawning also helps. Please bring some things she likes, like her favorite blanket, toy, books, small carry on items. Maybe a snack or two she likes. And, maybe some baby tylenol or motrin for in case. And the usual. diapers, change of clothes. Maybe some paper and a couple of crayons. If you can, please also let her look out the window at the clouds, and the land, looks like a big patch work quilt from up there. Please, make it a fun, pleasant, somewhat exciting "adventure" for her. Things will go fine. She will probably want a nap too. And, the flight attendants will also help per your request. Enjoy and take care.
Oh, nothing to worry about her unless she's not in good condition to travel. Better take her first to your family doctor. Be sure to bring with you her favorite toys so that there's no need for her to get bored during the flight like the little girl who cried all the way from the time of our departure till the plane was about to land when I had my trip to US.
GOD BLESS THE CHILD.
Taking an 18 month old child on an airplane is a bad idea.

Oh, sure, you can do it...
Purchase a seat for her and bring her car-seat; don;t travel with her as a lap-child. Most airlines charge a fee for a lap-child anyway, and a reduced fare for child in car-seat, so the savings is not all that great when you travel with a lap-child. More importantly, lap children are not protected at all in a crash or other emergency, and even in rough air/turbulence, I have seen lap children bounce out of mom's arms and fall to the floor. Saw that happen twice last year.
