Losing Luggage??? |
Travel Info I will be traveling to Germany this summer for 6 weeks and I will have 2 stopovers aside from my departure airport and arrival airport, what are the chances of losing my luggage and not getting it return or just losing it in general? I will be packing quite a bit because I will be gone for 6 weeks, but I dont want to lose my clothes. Any tips or anything? Travel Tips If you don't mind defacing your luggage, put stickers on both sides of it. Most "stolen" luggage happens when people grab the wrong bag. Like someone above said, put your German contact information on the tag as well as USA. Your cell phone # is the most important. The very most important thing to do to make sure that your luggage is not lost it to check the baggage tags they stick on it when they take the bags. Make sure your bags are going to the same place as you. You have very little chance of loosing them if you do that. Oh one other thing. Don't check your bags too early or they might go on an earlier flight. Giving them the chance to be "inspected" by the grunts in the airport. Others Use the luggage tags correctly, shouldn't have any problems. If you're concerned about it, put 2 sets of tags on it, 1 for your home address, and 1 where you'll be in germany with contact information for the Hotel. I would suggest using luggage that is not black - pick something with some color - as its less likely to be overlooked. Also - double check your bag tags to make sure they are marked correctly - and even double check with the agent checking you in. I just came back from Paris and I didn't get my luggage back until the next day because they lost it. Actually, not to scare you, but the last 3 times I flew I have had lost baggage. So it does happen often. But very rarely does someone luggage ever get lost for good, with the tracking technology they have. Just pack a change of clothes in your carry on just incase they do lose it for a day. If the luggage is lost call the airlines many times and try to talk to a real person (not a recording). I've been traveling for over 20 years, and three times my luggage has been delayed. I have never heard of anyone actually "losing" luggage (meaning "lost and gone forever"). |
