Free upgrade on flights for special occasion? |
Travel Info I will be flying on my birthday to NYC for a vacation with my mom, and neither of us have been before. I was wondering if you think it would be possible for us to get a free upgrade. We are flying on Air Tran...I know they offer the $75 upgrade to first class, which I think my mom is planning on doing for us as our seats are not together. Do you think the customer service agent would be willing to upgrade us for free since it is my birthday and my mom and I wouldn't be sitting together in coach?? Travel Tips it depends really - most airlines would rather sell their seats than just give them away - you could try saying something like " being its my birthday we get a free upgrade right ?" and smile - if the agent is having a good day and the flight isnt full - what do you have to lose Others I'm sure they won't. Your birthday isn't that special...and they don't have the authority to upgrade on a whim. AirTran...doubtful but doesn't hurt to give it a try. Airlines usually only do free upgrades unless you have a certain status on their mileage programs or....they really messed up and want to keep your business :) Not likely. There are probably a bunch of preferred customers in front of you on the waiting list (like me) who fly the airline every week (like me) and (sorry, I know it's your birthday and everything) we come first.
