I need an airline to fly my pitt bull from Ohio to Florida?

Travel Info
I have an 80lb pitt bull that i need to fly home to me, but i cant find an airline to ship him. Continental doesnt accept pitt bulls at all, southwest doesnt ship animals, and neither does us airways. Im starting to panic!

Travel Tips
I worked in the airline industry for years and here is my best suggestion.

SKIP - calling commerical airlines reservations!!

START WITH - Cargo! Look on the net, or in your yellow pages under Cargo. Go that route for sure!

And here is a big suggestion, when you go there to make the arrangements, DO NOT tell them it is a pit bull. I would just say, you have an 80lb dog. Who knows if the shipper has discretion over what they ship, but as you probably have learned already, people FEAR pitt bulls. So just say an "80 lb dog".

Most of the airlines have changed their rules about animals flying, but please use CARGO! Source(s): 12 years in the aviation industry!

GOOD LUCK!!!! that is all I have to say. Also, you might want to check with United or Fed-ex or someone like that. GOOD LUCK!!!!!!
Almost any airline will let you bring an animal with you on the flight as long as you are willing to let him stay in cargo. You will need to pay for him (as well as your seat) and put him in an approved carrier (which can be found at your local pet store). Do you have a friend who would be willing to fly out with him?

This will be a terrible trip for your animal, he will not be let out to use the bathroom, and he may get sick on himself. You are supposed to put a small water bowl and food bowl (that you can attach to the carrier) in with the animal as well as something soft and absorbent for him to sit on inside the carrier.

Be forewarned, he will spill the water and food in the first 20 minutes and not get any more for the remainder of the trip. He will be treated like baggage, and will come to you covered in his own vomit and urine. Not happy.

If you don't have anyone willing to fly out with him, and no airlines will take him without a passenger, you could try sending him via a pet travel agency. Just search under "shipping my pet" on the Internet and you'll find several companies that are reasonably priced. Make sure you find one that is certified and insured.
Personal experience.
I'm not sure that any airline will carry a pit bull. This is more than likely due to their reputation of being mean and aggressive. Remember that there will be strangers moving the kennel from bag carts to the airplane and back with their hands and fingers close to the openings. If your dog was to bite one of them, you can imagine the legal consequences. I'm not saying that your dog is like that but that is the general feeling about pit bulls. Probably your best bet is to drive up and get him and drive home. Sorry.
