Travel Info Can your 16 year old use her/he school id to get on the airplane or do they need a state id? Travel Tips Airlines may be different although I can't think of a reason why they would be different in regards to identification requirements ... I work with an airline in the US. I check people in and give boarding passes. For people who are 18 years old and older, the ID must be a government issue (state or federal - driver's license/state ID or passport) and must include a picture and not be past expiration. An ID is not required for people aged 17 and under. I don't know exactly or officially why we do it this way, but I figure the parent is responsible for them legally and able to vouch for the child because of that ... if you want to be 100% sure you should call the airline you will be flying with or the airport from which you will be departing. You should be able to find those numbers online (almost every thing is online these days!) if one or both of the numbers aren't already on your confirmation or receipt of payment papers. Others It has to be a "government issued" ID. Assuming the 16 year old is attending public school and there is a picture on the ID, TSA may accept it as identification. It has to be a gov't ID |
