Airport security is useless?

I recently took a flight out of laguardia, while i was unpacking my computer out of the bag and taking off my shoes, i laid my plane ticket and id down next to the box because i had no pocket to put it in. when I looked up, it was gone. I asked security to stop and help me. they refused and made me go back out of the security gate telling me there was nothing they could do. meanwhile, i missed my plane and the round trip ticket was non refundable. why couldn't these useless people stop the machine so i could see if it went through or ask the people around me if they accidentally picked it up? that would have been the right thing to do instead of being rude to me.

Airport security is not there to make sure that you get to your flight on time--they are there to make sure that no hazardous materials and dangerous people enter into the gate area.

You are responsible for keeping track of your belongings, especially important paperwork like your ticket and identification.
