Are pet fish allowed on airplanes??? |
Travel Info I work at a hotel and a guest is asking me if he can bring his pet fish on an airplane back to Kuwait. Anyone know what to tell this dude? Does the FAA regulate it or is it up to the Airline? Help me out if you can... Travel Tips He needs to call the airline he's flying on to find out if they allow fish or not, and if there are quarentine procedures he needs to follow. Most likely he won't be albe to take the fish on the plane with him because of quarentine/customs/import laws. It has been done before. The fish are packaged in a bag, just like when you purchase them in a store, and are hand carried onto the plane. As far as fish running out of air--tropical fish are shipped in a similar fashion all the time. Some fish only need enough water to cover them completely plus a little more. Betas (Chinese fighting fish) are often shipped in cups with just a small amout of water. They have a special membrane on the top of their head which they stick just above the water line. They can 'breathe' through this membrane, thus allowing them to survive in water with a low oxygen level. Others No, not at all. I would tell him not even to try it either. ummm i think it is up to the airline like a dog you need to buy a special ticket for it but you will defenently need to check the airline website Of course not! If people can't even bring bottled water aboard, how's this guy supposed to make it on with a fish?! Yes, I think the FAA regulates this, it is not up to the airline... Also, the fishes' water might (will) become deprived of oxygen after a few hours, let alone a flight to Kuwait. The only thing I can suggest is for the guy to FedEx the fish-- it works for lobsters! Go for overnight priority or something like that... Since the fish has to be in water, and since the airlines limit the amount of liquid you can take on a flight, I would think that it would be pretty difficult for the guest to take a fish with him on the flight. It is probably best to check with the airline to see how he could ship the fish back with him, if indeed it is possible at all. |
