Making a flight connection? |
Travel Info i'm gonna be flying from boston to Philadelphia and then getting a connecting flight from Philadelphia to Shannon (ireland) in june. just wondering if two hours would be enough time to leave between arrival of flight from boston and departure to shannon. if flight from boston is 40% on time and there is a terminal change. Travel Tips 2 hours is enough time. In PHL, the terminals A,B,C,D are connected. From domestic (B,C,D), you don't exit security, you walk along the shops and then you're at international (A). There's also E but I think that's southwest, which I don't think has baggage transfer with any airline flying to Ireland. If you're flying USair, you will be ok. Even if you have 3 or 4 hours for your connection, you should still have a plan B and check your flight status early in the day to see if it's canceled. If it is delayed or canceled, move quickly to get the airline to put you on another flight. Two hours between flights should be ok, but 40% on time is not great. If possible, allow 3 hours between flights, just in case of weather delays. Better safe than sorry. If my memory is correct, in Philly, the international terminal is separate from the domestic terminal so be prepared. Airlines generally say allow 90 minutes between flights. I wanted a connection at Cairo once and because is was less than this they would not sell me the ticket for the connecting flight. Experience Now you hit on the most troublesome problem of airline travel. . .what if the flight is not on time in addition to your luggage being on another flight ending up at another airport. Two hours is a comfortable lead. . .good luck Hmmmmm..... there's no airline that flies direct from Philly to Shannon. So either you're making another stop or you've got it backwards because Air Lingus flies nonstop Boston to Shannon. Anyway, each airport sets their own standard "minimum connection times". Philly's minimum connection time to go from a domestic flight to an international flight is 1 1/2 hours. You should be OK. Also, if you are changing airlines, you should verify that there is a baggage agreement so you do not have to retrieve your bags in Philly and check them in for the next flight, in which case you may need more time. |
