Hi, I'm going on a plane this Saturday, but I have no idea what to do at the airport! Help, I'm really nervous

Travel Info
I've only flown a couple of times before so I don't know what to do!
I have a lot of layovers, my first two flights are American Airlines and the other is US Airways. Would my luggage go directly to my final destination or when would I pick it up?
Also, I printed out an e-ticket, what does that do?
I know we're not allowed to take liquids but what about medications such as an inhaler?
Oh, and would a laptop be considered the carry-on luggage? I was thinking about taking my backpack and the laptop case with me as the carry-on, would that be ok?
Oh and i'm not 18 yet...does that affect anything?

Travel Tips
The e-ticket you have printed out is your ticket for the flight, so make sure you have that and your passport available when you go to check in. When you first arrive at the airport (make sure you are there with plenty of time - your ticket should tell you how early to arrive), go to the check in desk for American Airlines with your luggage and show them your passport and e-ticket.

They will take your luggage, ask if you want an aisle or a window seat, and give you your boarding pass.

Normally luggage can go straight through to your destination, but as your third flight is with a different airline, you might have to reclaim your luggage after the second flight, and check it in again before the third flight. Dont worry about this though - they will tell you whatever you need to do when you are checking in, and the usually have specific desks which will be sign posted when you get off the second plane, to tell you where to go.

After you have checked in and have your boarding pass, you should go through security - keep your boarding pass and passport handy for this.

At this point, you shouldn't have any liquids, or sharps (other than the small amount of liquids you are allowed in a sealed see through bag, or medications - just enough for the journey - again, in the sealed bag).

When you go through the security, they may ask you to take off your jacket, and shoes, and then all your stuff will go through the X-ray machine. If you take a laptop, you usually need to take it out of its bag at this point.

Then you go through a metal detector and pick up your things at the other side. They may ask to search your bags and occasionally they pat your clothes down (this is random, so dont worry about it if it happens).

After you get through security, check the screens to see which gate your flight is departing from - it should also give a boarding time. So you then should have a bit of time to kill, just make sure you get to the gate on time.

As for hand luggage, currently all the airlines that I have flown with recently will count a laptop as the one piece of hand luggage, so you would not be able to take on any other bags - but you should check this with your airline. You will be able to take your medication with you - just have it in a see through bag for security and let them know about it.

Good luck, and dont worry too much! Source(s): Frequent flier (but I fly from the UK, so it may be slightly different)
Other Travel Tips
Ive only flown once, and that was in 5th grade( i just graudated) and i know what to do.

walk in, get your ticket, give them your luggage, tag your carry on bag, go through the security people, find your terminal, wait for the plane. when it gets there, and they call for you to board, give them your ticket, find your seat, and buckle up.
chill!
first, ask any questions u need answered at the airport, but yes generlly luggage is checked all the way through to ur destination
take your eticket as u will show the locator number to go thru security, etc/ and get a boarding pass
laptop is carryon
inhaler should be OK, but check the web site of your airlines and check out what u can take
have a good time.....
Just be cool, liquids have to be I think 5 oz bottles and they must be in a clear zip lock bag. dont take any weapons or drugs , unless prescibed. Youll have to take your shoes off going through security. make sure you have ID. You can bring two carry ons. Chck your luggage at the curb, its alot quicker. oh No lighters, Youll be fine kid....
Well first you to your airlines stand & check in, when you do that you give your bags but not your hand luggage. Then you go through security & show them your hand luggage & anything else you have & go through the metal detector. Then just wait until it's time for boarding. As for the e-ticket I don't know. When you arrive your luggage will come on a conveyor belt when you arrive inside the airport. With you laptop in your hand luggage that should be fine & ask when you check in about your inhaler. Because your not 18 that wouldn't effect anything if your over 11.
You'll be fine! Your luggage will go directly to where to your final destination. You don't have to worry about it once you check it in. You printed an eticket, which means that all you have to do now is check your luggage and show your ID. You can take liquids with you ( in the United States), but they have to be 3 oz or less and you have to fit them in a 1 quart size ziplock bag. Your inhaler will not be a problem, they will let you take it. And you are allowed to take your laptop and a backback as carry on. But that's it, no more than that. You'll do fine, in any case you can always ask the people at the counters. That's what they are there for
