Food on plane for long haul flight? |
Travel Info Im pregnant and flying to trinidad on sunday. It will be a 12 hour flight. Will I be allowed my own food and water on the flight with me?? Travel Tips Yes and no. There are no specific rules against bringing food or water on the plane, however, you still must adhere to the 3-1-1 rule regarding restriction on liquids set by the TSA. Go to www.tsa.gov for more details, but the gist is that you can only take liquids of 3 oz or less, that fit in a 1-quart, clear plastic bag and you can carry 1 bag per person. There are exceptions for medical reasons so if your reason for bringing your own food is medical, you might be able to bring stuff through with a doctor's statement. Note that these limits only apply to items brought from outside the airport and through security. Anything you buy in the airport after security is fair game and can be brought on board. Be careful though; if you have a plane change somewhere that requires switching terminals or going through security for some reason, you'll have to follow the policy. If you have special dietary concerns you might want to check with your airline to see if they can meet them. Most airlines provide special meals on long haul flights including low-salt, kosher and other specialities. Also, bottled water is readily available in flight. I flew as recently as April with my 2-year-old and we always carry food on for him. Let me know if you want a great recipe for an easy to carry on pasta we always make him. Hope this helps. You can also check www.faa.com for more flight info. Source(s): Experienced international traveler. Other Travel Tips You can't take any liquids through security, however I have taken sweets and stuff through. You might be stopped when they x-ray your bag if you have cooked foodstuffs. You can buy anything you need after security and take as much as you like on the plane with you. What does being pregnant have to do with it? If you are traveling from the U.S., you will have to purchase your water after you go through security. I'm not sure about food. If you buy the water after you pass through security, yes. As far as I am aware (after traveling on an International flight in April) you cannot bring any food or drink onto the airplane that you did not purchase after going through check-in. If you call the airlines at least 48 hours before your flight, you can make dietary requests of them. The airline should have a set of rules for you to go by in special circumstances. Good luck and have a safe flight! yes but they will have food on the plane. but just bring some extras just in case. |
