Why ziplock liquids for flights?

I am wondering what this prevents...can't someone easily UNzip as easy as zip liquids from a carry-on bag...and do what ever is concidered dangerous if thats what they intend?

At our airport they told us the zip-lock bag was just to give an appropriate size of liquids that could be taken in your carry-on and also to make it easier for the liquids to be isolated for security purposes.
