First time flyng alone; 3 connections. Help? |
Travel Info Ok so I'll be going to Colombia on Monday and I'm flying with American Airlines. My connections are like this: Halifax (Canada) -> New York JFK -> Washington Reagan -> Miami -> Medellin, Colombia I haven't flown since 2004 and I've never ever flown alone so I have like no idea what to expect whatsoever. On my connections I'm spending about 2 hours in each airport between flights, will this be enough time? Also I have no idea about check-in.. I'm so terrified I don't even know what to do!! I'm afraid that I'm gonna make such a fool of myself at the airport because I know like nothing... ANY help would be so appreciated!! Travel Tips Since you are staying on the same airline, they can check your luggage all the way through (so you don't have to pick it up at each layover) so traveling should be a breeze. When you check in at Halifax make sure they know your final destination is Medellin, Columbia. Most likely you'll clear US customs before you leave Canada (since they can do that). Just pay attention to the directions and follow what the signs say. Once you clear customs and start your journey, stay inside the security screened area (don't go out or you'll have to be screened again and have to stand in line again). The same goes for your connections in JFK and Reagan. You can wander around in the shopping area but don't go outside of the airport or you'll have to clear security again. You might want to check with your airline regarding any limitations for your carry on luggage (such as US has liquid restrictions for 3.4 oz or smaller in a ziploc bag) but other than that, flying is really easy nowadays as long as you follow the rules and be patient. Have a great trip! Others chillax dude! if you're taking American Airlines all the way then when you check-in at Canada they should give you all you're tickets for your connecting flights. and your luggage should be taken to the next plane automatically. just pay attention, make sure you're at the right gate, if you need help just ask the airport personnel. oh and dont forget your passport they wont let you back into america without it! Have Fun! I'm 15 and fly to the Philippines all the time You'll be fine. You're flying the same airline the entire trip, which makes things much easier. When you check in at Halifax, they'll give you all the tickets you'll need to get on each flight. Just follow the signs and look at the computer screens for the gate number of your next flight. When you arrive at Washington, you'll have to go through U.S. customs, which should take a few minutes, but you should definitely be able to catch your flight to Miami. When you first check in at Halifax, ask any questions that you might have (that weren't answered in this forum) and they'll be happy to help. Trust me, they get some pretty *dumb* questions, so don't be embarrassed--just speak up. Happy travels! The connections aren't gonna kill you but I'd think twice about landing in Medellin, Columbia.
