Have airbus got it wrong again with there new plane the A380?

Travel Info
this new plane is going to seat 700 passengers and most of the airports ive used only have 4 gates open to checkin .With todays security i estimate checking of 2mins/ passenger. That equals almost six hours to check in . There was a plane again my airbus that used to seat 100 passengers that equals checkin of under one hour but it flew to fast and you would of checkin and flown to the USA before the A380 has checked in.
what are your views.

Many of the same criticisms being directed at the A380's size and passenger capacity today are the same ones that were slung at the 747 back when Boeing first introduced the plane.

Too many passengers.... Airports will be overcrowded... Terminals can't handle them... Despite the gloom and doom the 747 has been a huge success.

When it comes to passenger handling and airport capacity, the airlines aren't dumb. They're only going to be operating the A380 to airports that can handle it, and many airports have made or will be making the needed changes to take on the A380. The cricism of the aircraft based on it's size and passenger capacity is for the most part unfounded.

What may do the A380 in however is the technical problems Airbus is having with the aircraft. Weight and other issues have delayed the aircraft's initial delivery several times already. Several airlines have canceled orders and some are even seeking punative damages against Airbus for the delays.

In addition, there's still a serious debate about whether or not the A380 will fill a legitmate need for airlines. The A380 is designed for long haul hub to hub service, and based on it's size and capacity it's only going to be able to fly to large airports... By contrast Boeing choose a different route with their 787 which is designed as a "smaller" long haul aircraft. The 787's smaller capacity allows it to operate on lower yield routes than the A380, as it result it gives airlines in bit more flexibility in the routes they can profitably operate the aircraft.

Having queued for an hour at "fast bag drop" at Heathrow last week.....again......I dread the day that we get planes with twice as many passengers...

Also it takes over an hour and a half to get a 747's passengers through most U.S immigration control points. God help us when planes are landing double the amount of passengers in one go.

There is already queue rage.........
I think the A380 is a pretty cool plane.
The A380 will only be able to land at a select amount of airports and I understand that T5 at Heathrow will be built to handle this type of thing.

I too have experienced problems at Heathrow with the fast bag drop, however this is normally first thing in the morning and Heathrow does tend to be chaos then.

With the improvements in on-line check-in and the airlines that will be running the A380 I don't forsee too many problems. What would be a problem is if the cheaper/charter airlines started flying them.

I am looking forward to see what they will be like.
i think it might be a big flop, seems airlines are dropping orders for it. the whole project seems to be airbus's one upmanship of boeing. airbus builds a good airplane but i think they should stick with what got them big in the first place, twin engine medium sized commercial aircraft.
Actually pretty good question.

In fact, if you look at the airlines who bought the A380, are mainly asians...
I dont know if you travel to Asia, but by experience I can tell you that those guys in HKG, BKK, SIN, TPE, MNL, etc... are pretty experience with big aircrafts (B747, B767, A340/330)... most of the airplanes are of this size overthere, even for a one hour flight (HKG/TPE) you have 747 every hour...
It means that they are used to it.
We have issues in terms of handling large aircrafts in Europe and in the USA, due lately to security... This is not due to airport problems of handling but more on the (As i wrote) security side.
As someone said, the A380 will only land in apt having passed evaluation... This is why you see our days the A380 flying around the world...
As you can see as well, i dont know if you are traveling a lot or not, but most of the airport I visit are building new terminals, etc...
In terms of being faster in boarding passengers, there is a whole rethinking of the time spent in between the time you put a foot at the apt and the boarding...
For example, there is an evaluation of using biometric system... example... a frequent traveler with his airline or alliance frequent flyer card, would be detected right in entering the terminal, s/he can do automatic check in via SMS or via a check in box, then would do fast bag drop... then would pass the security, using biometric...
this is the kind of evaluation which is under going... for example at CDG apt in Paris...
so i think the A380 is the right thing to do... first to reduce pollution... less flights... still feeders flight logic behind... with smaller airrplanes...
I work in travel industry... sorry for my english you surely noticed i am not english speaking...
