Can you bring canned fish (tuna) on international flights to the U.S.?

Travel Info
I will be flying from England to New York

Travel Tips
YES!!

I know, I did it with fois gras from France (I know it's un-PC but please no flaming!) I went up the the agriculture inspector and gave it over to her and asked her directly "Can I bring this in?"

She said yes. Certain canned goods aren't allowed in. She told that the pork-free products were *usually* alright. Remember that they are much stricter with meat products so a fish product would probably be fine.

Look at the link below. If still in doubt, either contact them for confirmation (print up and bring along) or do what I do and simply ask them while still in the customs area. If it's not allowed, they'll simply instruct you to throw it in a special bin they have for that purpose. Believe me, you'll have time while waiting for your bags!

You can bring food onboard to eat during the flight. The tuna fish would have to have a pull top for you to eat it onboard (any instrument to open it wont be allowed through security). Anything fresh, like fruit, simply leave behind in the seat. You just can't bring those into the U.S.

Lastly, I wont lie to you. It is possible that security in your departure U.K. airport would confiscate it. They have the right to do so. It's unlikely with a clearly commercially packaged product but if they get the instructions to do so, they can and will. For such a low priced item, I'd take the risk. But for arriving with it Stateside, I think you're fine. Source(s): Former F/A who lived in England for 6 years & whose husband works in agriculture

Other Travel Tips
Highly doubtful and you can buy anything in NY so really no need .
I think processed foods like canned tuna are generally OK. No fresh or raw foods and no live plants/animals - they have to be quarantined.
Probably not, it could be a liquid explosive, try freighting it.
Definitely not on carry on- id check US customs and border control website first
