If it's the airline's fault, I believe they have to do something. Not for weather or things like that. They have to do everything they can to fulfill their contract with you. By sending you on the next availible flight, they could be keeping their deal. If you make it clear to someone in charge that it did not give you everything you were bargaining for then they usually will do something extra. No. There was talk about a passenger bill of rights earlier in the year, but that quietly faded away. In the event of cancellation, you will be booked on the next available flight, with the caveat that other people may be ahead of you in line due to seniority or ticket class. Of course, the airline will try to get you out on their equipment first before resorting to the competition鈥檚 (equipment). If the flight was cancelled due to equipment failure, the airline will usually give you a room and food vouchers, but this is for public relations reasons, not because they have to. And if the cancellation is due to an act of nature, good luck! If it was weather related there is no compensation if it was mechanical or crew related they are required to get you on the next available flight (which is probably what they did as flights are full in the summer). However it is always worth writing to the airlines consumer affairs department and asking for compensation. At the very least they will probably give you a $25 coupon for your next flight. Depends on why they canceled the flight |
