How do I get through airport alone?

Travel Info
I'm 17 years old and I will be travelling alone this summer. I am going to Mexico as an exchange student. I've travelled by plane quite a few times with a group of friends and all I had to do was follow them. This time I have no one and I have to do it all by myself. I'm not very good at being alone in situations like that so can anyone help? Can someone tell me the exact steps taken when going through an airport?
I will most likely be on different flights for example....one from my state to another state, then on from that state to mexico

Travel Tips
It will much depend on your airport of feparture but listen the first thing is :
If you are willing to pay the UM (unaccompanied minor) fee the airline personnel will take you to the gate thru all the security searches to the gate and then they will deliver you in person to the fligth attendants FA and she will in the connecting point deliver you to an agent will make arrengemnets to take you to your connecting flight and do the smae thing over again and when reaching detination an agent will scort your again thru the customs and immigration process and deliver you in person to the meeting party the fees go around 90 USD.
If you are not willing to do that get to the airport 2 to 3 hours ahead of time depending on the size of your first airport and check in and explain ailrine staff youn are traveling alone and would like to know exactly what to do, once you cehck in they should issue you boarding passes all the way thru to your final destination, COUNT them make sure they read your departure and arrival destinations and they match the place you want to go to.
Get the departure gat einformation (should be in the boarding card) but ask the agent checking you in to read it back to you and confirm the gate number and HOW TO GET to it, make sure you get your baggage claim stubs and DO NOT throw them away until you get your bags at your final destination, make sure you got all that along with boardiung passes and your passaport and then you will ahve to deal with airport security at the screening point, make sure you remove all metalic objects including watch, belt, coins, medicine that has metalic wraps chains. etc, some shoes now also have metal so just remove the, be sure to carry no liquids containers that are over 100 ML and thet they are in a clear sip lock type of bag or they will take them away from you (do worry about this if you place all your liquids in your checked bags, once you go thru security look for the signs that indicate your departing concourse and gate number and proceed to it and wait untill you hear the announcements for the flight being boarded, at the connecting check point all you need to do is to the assigned gate for departure, the flight which you are arriving on will be meet by an airline agent/rerpresentative just ask directions if you don't feel sure about it, go there and if there is an agent already there check with them ask to confirm this flight is leaving form this gate and that he/she knows you are on it and travleing alone, stay nearby for any announcements and/or to hear when they start boarding and do so when the time comes (at the conneting airport there is NO NEED to go thru security again unless you take the wrong turn and get out of the restricted area so keep alert, do not follow ground transport or baggage claim area your bags should be checked to the final destination if yuou made sure of that at check in) on board your last flight make sure yo complete mexican customs and immigration forms! and have them ready for the authorities when you arrive along wiht your passaport. When you get to final destination again an agent will be meeting that arriving flight, ask him or her to assist you thru and I would suggest you stay with him or her untill you SEE your meeting party and you have your bags and everything.
Keep and take care of your copies of the immigration forms stamped by the authorities you WILL NEED them for your departure (not sure what fomr you need as an exchange student).
I thinnk that covers the most important parts! I wish you good luck and a good trip, Mexico is beautiful and thier poeple are quite nice.
Send me a message if you got any questions I type fast and have many mistakes on spellilng most likely!
Cheers

first I suggest you find a map online of each airport you will travel through. This way you will know your way around proir to getting there. Then when you arrive at the airport you will have to check in. Let the airline know you are there. Check your luggage at curbside checkin or at the ticket counter. you have to go through security. Then find your terminal and gate. You should arrive several hours beore your flight to get all settled. Make sure you know your airlines and flight numbers. Have them in your hand and leave them with a trusted friend who will pick you up when you return.
Good luck it is kinda scary the first time but I am sure you'll be ok.
Poof gave you some good advice.

Also, talk to an agent at the gate, or nearby. Let them know you need assistance, and they can help you out.
I did this a coupe weeks ago, Im 14. trust me the easiest thing to do is follow the signs, there everywhere, and if yo get lost ask someone in uniform. signs are the easiest way
Put one foot in front of the other.

I reasonably certain you can read. Just get there plenty early, check all the signs, then confirm you're in the right place when you get there.

Believe me, within an hour you will be so bored, you'll be ready to run out on the tarmac.

Bienvenidos.
