Travel Info why do many of us turn to travel agents to buy cheap airfare? why would the airlines sell them cheap tickets and not to us? why can they get a booking done sometimes and not us.? Those few seats are then sold by the airline and the airlines travel agents (like Travelworld and Qantas). These seats are sometimes more expensive but the airline must make every seat avaliable on the plane, but it doesnt all have to go to the internet. Travel Agents are an outdated method of booking any type of travel accomodations. Airlines historically paid commission to travel agents for bookings, but since the internet has become a powerful tool, airlines no longer need to market their services through an agency. Save money by buying your ticket directly from the airlines website. Even sites such as Orbitz or Expedia charge a fee for using their website. By booking directly on the airlines website you can avoid this fee. Lastly, beware of buying bulk tickets from travel agents. If you look at your receipt on a bulk ticket or the flight coupon of a bulk paper ticket, you will notice the fare information is blank or says BULK. The airlines view these tickets as flight specific. If you have an emergency and must leave early, late, or rebook your travel for any reason, the airline will not allow changes and you will be stuck buying a new ticket. This is because the airline is unable to determine the fare you paid because this information is only available to the agency. |
