I have an international dateline question?

Travel Info
if my 1st flight leaves singapore(in their time zone) on july 23rd @ 7am (8hr fight) then the second flight is 13 hours approximately what day and time will it arrive in USA according to pacific time?

Travel Tips
What airline are you traveling on and where is the connecting point? Tokyo? What city are you arriving in the United States? If you give me the Airline and flight number and I could easily give you the ETA (Estimated time of arrival)

Before I do that let me try and help you understand what this International Date Line is all about.

Remember there are 24 time zones in this world. 24 hours in a day as well. It cannot be the same day and time on opposite ends of the Earth. All of the Time Zones are based on where they are in relation to GMT, Greenwich Mean Time (aka Prime Meridian) which happens to be near London, England.

The opposite of this meridian is the International Date Line crossing the Pacific Ocean. It is here that it will affect the least number of people other than you jet setters coming back from Asia. You should look at a globe and it is very easy to understand.

Imagine the situation if the International Date Line were reversed and it split London into two days. Depending on where you lived on which side of the street it could be a Sunday or a Monday.

So there are 24 time zone, 11 of them on the right of London and 11 on the left of London. Then there is London and the International Date Line making 24 time zones in total.

To the right it is plus one hour all the way to plus 11 hours. To the left it is minus one hour to minus 11 hours and they meet at the International Date Line.

Confused enough? LOL

Ok so Pacific Time is minus 8 factor from London. So when it is noontime in Los Angeles, it is 8:00pm in London.

Singapore is a plus 8 factor from GMT. So when it is 8:00pm in London, it would be 4:00am the next day in Singapore. So noontime in Los Angeles is really 4:00am the next day in Singapore.

So there are 16 hours in time difference between the two. Source(s): 34 years in the Travel Business
