What happens if you switch on your mobile phone in a plane? |
Travel Info What happens if you switch on your mobile phone in a plane? Travel Tips The phone turns on and begins searching for a signal. Honestly there would be an extremely small effect on any avionic equipment, if any at all. However, if it could potentially cause even the slightest problem then the FAA feels they should negate the risk, kind of a "better safe then sorry" thing. Others the plane will crash. Really, nothing. But I think if everyone was using their phones it would cause disturbance in the signals to towers. I turn mine on to see what time it is sometimes, then off again. Plus, I think a big part of it is that it is rude and the plane would be noisy. Some people are quiet on their phones, but some geez! I don't want to hear their conversations. It will activate the flux capacitor and send you back to 1955 I left my phone on the entire flight and nothing happened. It is a combination of making sure people aren't talking and being rude to other passengers and then the very small chance that a number of cell phones used at the same time could interfere with communication between the pilot and flight control. If you watch the Simpsons...there was a funny episode where Bart was playing his Game Boy and they told him to turn it off and then the plane started to nose dive, at which point they told him to turn it back on! Haha! Nothing happens. I do it all the time because I have a PDA phone and want to answer some emails. Unless you are at an extremely low altitude (during takeoff or landing) you won't get a signal though. There has been a lot of talk about allowing cell phones to be used on planes (I assume that the airplanes would be equipped with something so that we get a signal) because there is ample evidence showing their safety. http://consumerist.com/consumer/airbus/c... |
