Considering A Stopover In Dubai/Singapore..Opinions Please? |
Travel Info I will be going to New Zealand in Nov and I have the choice of a stopover in either Dubai or Singapore. Has anyone been there? Opinions please? Travel Tips I LOVE Singapore and would always always choose that if there was a choice of stopover.... In addition to that, it's 12-14 hours away by plane.... ie more or less halfway to New Zealand, all the better to rest up for a day or two. I highly recommend the Phoenix Hotel if there is more than 1 of you, or if you can afford it, as if you book online, they have suites for very little over the price of a single room if you were to just turn up at the hotel. I have stayed there several times, it's right on Orchard Road, where all the shops are and over a shopping mall... What can I say? :-P Alternatively, hey, if you can, why not stop in one on the way there and one on the way back? I personally would go to Singapore in both directions, for 1 or 2 nights on the way there and 3 (probably) on the waqy back. Incidentally, if you book the suite at Phoenix hotel (google it for the website, I THINK it's hotelphoenixsingapore.com but I COULD be wrong, so it's safer for you to just search) , you get a guaranteed late checkout of 18:30 which is great if you have an evening/night flight from SIN to New Zealand :-) Changi Airport by the way, is also the best airport I have ever been to. Source(s): Been to Singapore several times and missing it :-P Other Travel Tips Singapore is a vibrant multicultural city built around a harbour. Divided into several districts-arab, chinatown, indian etc. Main things to see and do include a day trip by cable car to Snetosa Island across the harbour where there are lots of theme parks and gardens to visit and a beach. You can also visit the temples, Jurong Bird Park, Ming Pottery Village, Shopping in Chinatown, Raffles Hotel is worth a visit to see it and you can have a drink in the bar, Orchard Road, Twilight cruise and dinner around the harbour, zoo. The weather should be very warm and not too wet at that time of year. I have stayed in two hotels. Last time it was The Alstrom not far from Raffles and the first time I went I stayed in Chinatown in Havelock Road in a hotel there. I have never been to Dubai so I'm sorry not to be able to give my opinion on that. Singapore is a nice place for a stopover of a few days. I HAD A STOPOVER TO DUBAI AND I RECOMEND IT TO ANYONE, YOU HAVE LOVELY SHOPPING CENTERS AND ITS A PLACE WHERE EAST MEETS WEST. We've just had an amazing holiday in Australia and did both our stop overs in Singapore, what a beautiful, clean, friendly and cheap country it is too, nothing is too much trouble in Singapore, its immaculate, the shopping is brilliant and there is tons to see and do, the only problem I found with it was the humidity, it was 32 degrees and 90% humidity, a bit like walking into a furnace on a hot day, all buildings and shops have air conditioning which is great but its so hot out, I would go again though and would recommend it to anyone. |
