Can i extend the validity of a ticket with a 1 year return date?

Travel Info
I have a return flight to Italy that is valid for a year but what if i decided to stay longer?
Is it possible to return home on a date beyond the validity of that ticket?
eg. the last date to return is the 1st July 2008 but i want to return 23rd August 2008.

Travel Tips
The maximum validity of 99.9% of tickets is 12 months. So if you decided to stay longer, you would most likely need to purchase a new ticket for the flight home. You should call your airline to make sure...but be prepared for them to say no. Source(s): I'm a travel agent
Other Travel Tips
It would depend on the restrictions placed upon the ticket you bought. I would check with the airline to see how much it costs to change your travel date. Some tickets will allow you to change free of charge, some for a fee and some tickets may not allow it. Only your airline can tell you for sure.
