Questions for frequent fliers? |
Travel Info I was wondering if someone coud tell me how much money it is to check in a bag over the limit of 50 pounds; particulary for southwest. I am traveling in a week and was also wondering how early should i arrive at the airport before my flights departure. I usually arrive an hour and a half before departure; particulary for the Salt Lake City airport. Should I arrive any earlier after the London bombings? Travel Tips If your bag weighs between 50 and 71 lbs its 25.00. If its between 71 and 100 its 50.00. They recommend on domestic flights arriving 2 hours prior to the flight. I will tell you, my clients, who are corporate travelers, do not get there that early. Most of them arrive about an hour prior. Since you are not as experienced I think you will probably be more comfortable if you do get there between 2 and a 1 1/2 hours prior. Since you are flying Southwest I would recommend checking in on line at their web page, www.southwest.com. The way they board the plane is different than other airlines. They will assign you a group, and each group boards and just chooses whatever seat they want. If you check in online the day of the flight you can get assigned to one of the early boarding groups so you can choose a good seat. Source(s): Corporate travel agent Other Travel Tips For any US airport I recommend going to the airport at least 2 hours before check in, you never know how long security line will be. In Las Vegas, it is recommended to be there 3 hours before departure especially on weekends. That's how bad traffic can be. Salt Lake City isn't all that bad, traffic wise. I believe Southwest charges $20 for every extra lb of luggage. So be careful not to exceed. Check on southwest.com for how much the overweight baggage charge is - on most airlines it's $50 but I'm not sure about Southwest. They will tell you the exact amount (probably in that ballpark though). And an hour an a half is probably fine. I've flown a couple times already since the London bombings - all at fairly major airports - and the security hasn't been really any different. |
