Can anyone tell me why you have to have the all window flaps up when taking off or landing an aeroplane?

If there is an emergency you can see outside and judge when the plane has completely stopped and whether there is fire on one side of the aircraft or the other and make your exit based on that.

That is also why they dim the lights at night for landing. So you can see outside if anything happens.
