Question about french exams?

i know that in the US there are star tests, but are they the same as the brevet national, which is taken as a exit exam out of middle school to get into high school (in France)?

No, the brevet is a test that is developed by the French governement. It has nothing to do with the Star tests. It has been in use for generations in France. It helps determine what high school you can go to (college prep, trade school), etc.
