Travel Info thinking saint germain or latin quarter
Travel Tips
I agree that the Saint Germain and Latin quarter are very touristic. I lived in the 11th near voltaire which isn't hip at all but I loved it because it was true Paris, different nationalities, colors etc. The 9th is nice, well placed between Pigalle/Montemarte and les grand Boulevardes but not too exciting. For me the 17th is too far and a bit too family oriented and expensive. It seems every single girl over 25 or 30 lives in the 15th but that isn't very happening either unless you are at Convention or near the Metro line 6. 1 st and 16th are quite beautiful but very very expensive. Try oberkampf, Bastille, le Marais, Convention, Rue Moufftard??, anywhere in the 2nd, Opera, Montparnasse and just behind the Pantheon and parc de Luxemburg. Skip the 18th 19th and 20th for distance reasons.
The best idea, rent a bike from RATP, bike around all of these areas and find out which one you like and fits you the best. Keep in mind that being no more than 5 to 10 minutes from the Grocery store and a good metro line are very very important. I didn't mind not having an elevator (lived on the 5th floor) because I dropped about 10 kilos despite all the good food and good wine. |
