Paris shows...?

Travel Info
Hi...my husband and I will be in Paris in December and I was wondering if anyone had suggestions as to what shows to see. We have been to see the show at the Moulin Rouge (and didn't care for it) and we are taking a side trip to London to see the "Phantom of the Opera".

Travel Tips
I'd say, yes the Opera-either the classic, baroque-exterieur, Opera Garnier (9th arrondissement, near Metro Opera), or the modern-styled Opera Bastille (on Place Bastille, 11/10th arrondissements, Metro Bastille). I think you can even take a tour of the Opera Garnier which is supposed to be pretty spectacular on the inside (I've seen pictures and advertisements, though haven't been inside in my time in Paris, unfortunately).
Also, for theatrical tastes, there's the venerable and top-flight Comedie-Francaise theatre which usually presents classic French plays (such as those by Moliere) in its choice location near the Louvre and rue de Rivoli right in the center of Paris. True, if you speak French, this will be more attractive, though even if you are just learning it's a great way to practice. I'm not sure, but there might be a English program that would allow you to get briefed on the story if you don't speak French.
Other "spectacles" that would be fun are any sort of jazz cafe or cave (cellar, sometimes really like a cave, carved from rock) is a cool Paris experience. Some of the bigger ones charge a somewhat hefty entry fee (such as, I think, Duc de Lombards, near Chatelet) though there are smaller ones that are either free on certain nights or are less expensive.
Just to backtrack for a second, if you don't already know about it, you should pick up Pariscope (a booklet that's less than a euro probably) which will list most things going on in an nearly exhaustive directory and any deals and such going on. Sometimes you might find a fun play to see, if you speak French, or something may pop up in English if not. Otherwise, there may be another kind of show, more like a musical or circus (like a cirque de soleil sort of event), listed.
I realize picking up a guide is last minute, but it can be a good option if you don't have anything lined up when you get there. Also, Timeout.com/paris might be a good site to site to keep checking for events as you get closer to travelling.
