Best way to tour sites when staying in Paris...such as Normandy, Loire Valley etc.?

Travel Info
We will be staying in Paris and would like to see some of France outside of Paris. Normandy, Loire Valley or your suggestions are welcome. We have already seen Givernay and the Palace at VER., Chartres, and are looking to go further afield.
Forgive my spelling.
A good day trip or perhaps overnight ideas are welcomed.
Is driving a good idea or should we stick with the rails?
Thanks for your input.

Travel Tips
Normandy and the Castles in the Loire Valley would make great day trips. If you're feeling courageous enough, rent a car. If you take a train you'll be limited to what you can see on foot or on taxi.

On a day trip from Paris, you could probably tour three castles in the Loire Valley or visit the D-Day beaches in Normandy plus a beautiful Normand town such as Deauville or Honfleur. If you'd like to go to Mont St Michel (on the Britanny-Normandy border), you might want to take a two day trip. Source(s): Lived in France for 17 years.
