Travel Info We'll be there 2 weeks and don't want to take to much. We'll be doing some basic sight seeing, all the normal tourist attractions, etc. We won't do anything to formal at night and I'm hoping khakis and a button down shirt will be fine (no tie or jacket I hope). We plan to carry backpacks to help in being mobile and ease of travel. Any suggestions on what to wear, be comfortable, and not stick out like a goofy tourist would be great...Thank you in advance! Jason
Travel Tips
It depends on where you are. It's cooler in the north than in the south. Last time I was in Italy, it was positively frigid around the Genoa coast some days in late April. Farther south, the weather is warmer. Pack layers... sweaters, turtlenecks, etc. I like to bring a few items of basic colors, mostly black or gray. Then I add accessories to brighten them up... scarves, pins, gloves, etc. You don't need a coat and tie unless you go to a big fancy restaurant. If you really don't want to look like a tourist, leave the running shoes at home. Only the Americans wear them. Choose decent walking shoes instead. And please don't wear baseball caps, especially indoors. I know that's almost an American tradition, but it's impolite for men to wear hats indoors. Jeans are fine almost anywhere, as are khakis. Otherwise, don't worry about being a tourist. Your backpacks and cameras will give you away. If you learn a few words of Italian and smile a lot, the people will love you, especially in the smaller towns to the south. Up north, many people speak at least some English and they're accustomed to seeing tourists... without baseball caps and running shoes. |
