Swimming The beaches on the southern, leeward coast have soft, sparkling white sand. The clear, calm, turquoise waters of Palm Beach, Eagle Beach, Druif Beach, Baby Beach and Rodgers Beach are safe to swim in any time of day, any day of the year. There are also several hidden little bays around the island, as well as the Conchi, or natural pool, near Arikok. In general, however, the Atlantic side of the island is wild and often treacherous. Please ask your hotel about safety before planning to swim anywhere other than the main beach areas. Jet Skis (WaveRunners) The smooth seas of the south and west coasts are perfect for both beginners and experienced skiers. Jet skis are restricted to certain areas. Please ask your hotel for details. =) Others Get yourself killed like Miss Halloway did. My hubby and I have been to Aruba many times and have always enjoyed it. Some of our best memories of the island include... Snorkeling at Baby Beach - make sure to buy a disposable underwater camera. Atlantis Submarines Aruba Exploring the island ourselves, but don't go off road unless you have a real Jeep. Learning some history of the island and it's people while there. Go horse riding, play golf, see the lighthouses and the natural bridge. We've enjoyed many of the restaurants on the island, many of them are US chain restaurants you'll be familiar with (Outback, Tony Roma's, etc.) Casinos, but we had plenty of fun w/out wasting money there, we blew our money at the Seaport Mall in downtown Oranjestad. Aruba is all about making their visitors feel at home. Whatever your interests are you'll be able to find something enjoyable to pass your time! If nothing else just sit by the pool and nap in the sun. Be sure to go for a walk and see the iguanas (ask the locals why they are missing their tails) that run wild and the other colorful little lizards. One last little tip...if you do happen to visit downtown Oranjestad make CERTAIN not to leave any belongings in your vehicle. Our Jeep was broken into in Oranjestad, thieves watch for tourists to leave bags and belongings in cars...that's what we were told. A local boy followed "our" thief but the police still didn't find him. It's still a wonderful place and we've gone back since that happened...and will again! Been there, done that http://www.aruba.com/index.php Plan a half day trip to The Palm Island. Great snorkeling. Make sure you go to Marina Pirata Restaurant also. The quaintest, loveliest, most romantic little place you'll ever visit. Best seafood, Arubian style. Charming service. You can ask your cabbie to take you. They have great beaches. I highly recommend the Flying Fishbone for a romantic dinner. We also did SNUBA diving and it was awesome. They have a great cigar bar called Garafu's--I think that is how it is spelled. There is plenty of nightlife and clubs downtown. I love the island and am going again next week. lots to do and see, was there this past October 2006. The natural bridge is gone, we enjoyed the beach and food. here is a poll of sunbathers in Aruba that you may find useful. http://www.explorerpod.com/index.php?pag... enjoy the great weather. |
