Have you ever been to Aruba and what do you think about it? |
Travel Info We are going to vacation there and I wanted some tips. Travel Tips My husband and I love Aruba and return every year. What do we love most? The beach, the restaurants, the activities and the resorts. If you have ever spent a rainy vacation in a hotel room, Aruba is a destination where this will NOT be a worry. 1. Weather in Aruba is nearly always perfect. 2.Save plenty of time for the beach. This is one of the island's best assets. 3. Snorkel Arashi or Malmok beaches. 4. Do not worry about the weather it is almost always nearly perfect. 5.Bring twice as much sunscreen as you think you may need. The sun is strong and you can even burn in the shade (reflection from the sand) or on a cloudy day. Do not forget to apply all over, even the tops of your feet and ears! 6. Head to the California Lighthouse with an expensive bottle of champagne to view a beautiful sunset 7. Expensive, but very romantic...dinner at the Flying Fishbone http://www.flyingfishbone.com/ or less expensive, our favorite, Gasparito http://www.gaparito.com/ offers local cuisine. At the Flying Fishbone, make a reservation at least a few weeks in advance for a table on the beach next to the water at sunset. At Gasparito request a table outside in the courtyard by the fountain or the quiet corner. 8. Bring, a hat with adjustable band so it will not fly off with the wind, lip balm with SPF protection, & sunglasses. If you have long hair, bring something to tie it back & no fancy hair-dos here. Sightseeing- As far as I am concerned, if you are only there for a week, take any one of the 1/2 day guided tours & catch all the highlights. Aruba is a desert, so except for natural & man made landmarks, on a 26-mile island there isn't much to see except goats & some other beautiful beaches. Also, you will see what used to be the Natural Bridge, but not the Natural Pool. It is still a popular attraction. Clothing- Pack your suitcase & then take out half of the clothing that you packed. Sounds funny but it works! Dress code: for her in the evening: shorts, sun dress or skirt, for him twill shorts with a polo shirt or a long pair of pants for a place such as Chez Mathilde, L'Escale or LeDome. During the day you'll need bathing suits & cover-ups, for her a few sun dresses, or for both of you a couple of pairs of shorts & tops for touring or shopping in Oranjestad are just fine. Any kind of footwear is acceptable. I invariably still end up bringing 3 pairs of shoes: sneakers, beach sandals & dressier shoes for at night. A light cotton sweater for her, as the air conditioning in the restaurants & casinos can be frosty. Men do not need jackets anywhere. We really do spend all day in our swimsuits, so not much need for anything else. We bring a few bathing suits so we always have a dry one to put on. Lodging- Something I learned a long time ago...If you are not happy with your room, do not unpack; speak to the front desk & if they have a room will 9 times out of 10 switch your room for you. It also does not hurt to ask for a free upgrade. Again it will depend on where you are staying, but we have gotten 4 unbelievable room upgrades in Aruba & that was without asking. I have always believed that if they have a room available, you will get it. It doesn't cost the hotel more for one room to be empty over another. They would rather see you be happy so you will return again & again- & we do. Money- The US $ is accepted everywhere! No need to exchange to Florins and prices are always posted in US $'s and sometimes both. For cash use denominations of $20's. Some some establishments will not accept 50 or 100 US dollars. Do carry some cash in small denominations for taxis & tips. ATM's will allow you a choice of USD's or Fls. Source(s): 12+ visits to the island Other Travel Tips Aruba is the type of place where white women are abducted, gang raped, murdered and their chopped up bodies are buried in a remote location by racist, american hating scumbags. It's also the type of place where the local authorities do everything they can do cover up what happened and make sure the murderers walk away scott free. Why they hell would you want to vacation there? Yes, Very romantic, love the beaches Go to: www.travelguidearuba.net to get more info on what to do. i bet panacea has never even been there... it is great, i was there in april and going again in nov..... arubalisa here has an excellent site for you to go to (web site)... if you care to contact me i will fill you in much better First of all, Panacea is way off. Don't mind those comments. I have been there and it is fabulous. Stayed at an all-inclusive resort for a week. Food was good, beaches are beautiful. Took out a party bus called the Fiesta Hopper. Takes you to some restaurants/bars that the average tourist may not be able to find on their own. Went to Carlos-N-Charlies, very cool place. I cannot wait to go back. And, the island is very small so you can rent a vehicle for a day and just go explore. You can see the whole island in one day pretty much. The one side of the island is all desert and so you must have a 4-wheel drive vehicle to maneuver that side of the island. Oh, and it is HOT and WINDY so don't mind what your hair looks like everyday. Have fun, I am jealous. |
