Why boycott a whole island and punish the people who live there (ARUBA)? |
Travel Info Why boycott a whole island and punish the people who live there (ARUBA)? Travel Tips Excellent question for discussion. Be prepared for a few absurd answers though. In singling out the entire island of Aruba for a boycott, IMHO, people just do not get it. Explain to me please how Aruba is such a special instance? Aruba is no different than any other foreign country. They do not have the same laws as the US. Americans must need to accept this fact. Aruban law does not follow the same process as it does in America. This disappearance could have happened anywhere else in the world including the US. A young woman went off late at night, after a night of drinking, with 3 strange men. Her friends did not stop her. The chaperones obviously did not do their job. No one blames them at all, much easier to point fingers at the Arubans. Blame government & law enforcement on a 26 sq. mile island, but it is the citizens of Aruba, who committed NO crime, but helped search for Natalee after she disappeared, are the only ones being made to suffer. If you need, boycott the government in the ivory towers, boycott the police but not the people themselves. These people make their living, scraping by just like you and I as housekeepers, bartenders, waitresses, taxi drivers, casino workers, etc. Why do we not hear the same outcry from Americans about the disappearance of other Americans across the globe? Where is the cry for boycotts of the cruise industry? Why is there no boycott of Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines for their failure to find the cause of the disappearance of a young man on one of their ships during his honeymoon? Is this not the same as what happened in the Holloway case? At least in Turkey there was blood evidence. Was the body ever found? Was anyone prosecuted? Was this some kind of conspiracy to cover up what happened? The US FBI was flown over to investigate, where are there investigators? Why is their no manhunt for the probable killer(s)? Others How unfortunate! I are heading to the Lesser Antilles this year. All that nonsense sure takes the A out of the ABC Islands! there really is no reason it was one person and the same things happen every were i love aruba it was the best island i had ever been to in my life i think it is so stupid to those who are boy cotting it It's wrong, plain and simple. People don't seem to realize the economy relies heavily on tourism. Letting one incident spoil everyone's opinion is just wrong. Imagine all the crimes that occur in Florida, Washington DC or New York, yet no press ever makes such a big deal about it where people start talking about boycotting those areas. I couldn't believe that they were trying to cancel Carnival festivities last year over the whole incident. It's sad that something bad happened to the young woman, but at the same time, it's not the fault of the entire population to have to suffer for something that wasn't their fault. Like someone else stated, it's not our government, nor our decision to govern the laws by which we think a society should abide by. As a visitor, people need to respect the island as it is, and take the necessary precautions to keep themselves and their belongings safe. |
