Aruba Travel: hotel recommendations, scuba dive shop, etc.? |
Travel Info Hi. I am off to Aruba in teh first week of October. I intend to scuba alot. Looking for a good hotel on the beach if possible. I saw rates of $112 at Aruba Resort Spa And Casino and $105 at Divi Dutch Village. Which would be a better hotel to stay at. I want the beach/pool for my wife who won't dive. But we want to eat in the city... I hear the restaurants in the city are great. So which is closer? Should I rent a car, or can I do without one? Anyone know a good Scuba Dive shop in Aruba? Travel Tips 1- Stay at the Wyndham, been there twice, and loved it. I can't wait to go back. Tell them its your Honeymoon or anniversary and ask for a room upgrade, if they have it you'll probably get it. The Radisson is also real nice. Never stayed there, but I had dinner at one of the restaurants. Both are on the beach and have pools, casinos, and restaurants. Either way you can't go wrong. 2- The island is relatively small so if you hop a cab it won't cost that much. If you go to eat away from the hotels, definitely go to El Gaucho(steak house), and The Lighthouse(Italian) 3- You can do without the car, cabs are cheap enough, and you can always find one. 4- Don't know much about the scuba, sorry. But other than that I'd recommend going to the Ostrich Farm, and the dune buggy or jeep tour. Have fun! Others I loved Aruba. I never heard of those two places. We stayed at the Radisson and it was wonderful. Right on the beach and great. Rent a Jeep 4x4 and go off-roading. Go to Carlos and Charlies. The concierge at our hotel had everything there for us to tell us everything available. We went to some place and snorkeled all day, did a Sunset cruise and did Horseback Riding on the Beach through Rancho Notorious. Have fun!!! Divi Divi and Tamarjin are both on the beach, both have nice pools. Have stayed at both. Very nice. You can do without a car. Visit www.tripadvisor.com, it has been very helpful for my trips. We stayed at the MAriott outside of town. There are two great Radisson hotels, one in town and another outside town. There is really not much to do in Aruba other than beach stuff. You will be "scraping the bottom of the barrel" for something to do other than beach stuff after a day or so. There are some casinos, nice but small. There are lots of restaurants, but I found them to be expensive. Try the Dive Grid at ScubaRatings to look for hotel/dive packages at http://www.scubaratings.com If you don't find exactly what you want, just fill out an inquiry for and they'll find a package for you. http://www.scubaratings.com/travel/?req=... A very good dive shop in Aruba is Red Sail Sports. They are a "chain". You can check out their info at www.redsailaruba.com. |
