Some friends and I want to go on a trip in Late June (ages 22-26)? Is Aruba for old people and couples only? |
Travel Info We were also thinking about Acapulco. However, it'll be the rainy season when we go. Anyone know if its still worth going? Any ideas for other destinations in the Carribean or general beach type places? Travel Tips Cancun, Cozumel, Puerto Vallarta, Riviera Maya, Cabo San Lucas, St Thomas, St Maarten/St Martin. All of these places are good for your age group. You will have a great time there. I have never been to Acapulco, but I have been to Cabo San Lucas and I loved it. I would say choose between Aruba and Cabo. If you like casinos, go to Aruba. If you're looking to party with friends in late June, check out St. Vincent who will be gearing up for their annual Carnival (a mardi-gras-type festival with music & dancing, no flashing though). St. Lucia will also be getting ready for their Carnival (though it's a little after St. Vincent's). Plenty parties and cultural events as well. Barbados & Antigua have their celebrations the first week of August, but have many events leading up to it from wees prior (if your plans are flexible). Its a very nice place to visit. It has great beaches and hotels and plenty of nice restaurants. It also has a few casinos in several of the hotels. There is not much to do in Aruba other than beach stuff. You can tour the island in half a day; you鈥檒l see the lighthouse, a national park that鈥檚 kinda like wilderness, a cave with some petroglyphics, and a natural bridge where the water comes under it and washes onto a small beach. There is a tour that takes you in a jeep across some of the desert areas but I would skip this. You really don't need a car in Aruba, there's not that much to drive to see. Baby Beach is kinda nice but don't feel disappointed if you don't get there. Its not that special. You can easily take a public bus to town from the beach areas. There are lots of water sports in Aruba including jet skis, snorkel and scuba, para-sailing and wind surfing and just lounging on the beaches. The casinos are nice, but small. Restaurants are rather expensive. I do recommend the Marriott in Aruba; it鈥檚 a great hotel. Aruba is not limited to couples and older people. Anyone who enjoys beach activities, casinos, restaurants and clubs will be right at home there. It attracts a mixed crowd. I went to Acapulco on a cruise ship last year and I was not impressed at all. Its a big bustling city with lots of people, kinda like New York City. The big hotels are for the most part right in the city on the beach, like Waikiki Beach in Hawaii. Our guide said the night life is great, if that's what you want. The beach did not look to me to be as good as those on the Caribbean side of Mexico. I like Aruba as a beach destination better than Acapulco but my favorite place to go would be Cancun. Cancun is a built up tourist place with many nice big hotels, restaurants and shopping centers as well as the downtown market. It actually has THE best beaches in Mexico. But do beware of the undertow warnings posted daily. Cancun is set up perfectly for tourists with all of the hotels in a location called 鈥渢he hotel district鈥? There are a large variety of restaurants and a couple of shopping malls in the hotel district. There is no need for a car because there is continuous bus service up and down the hotel district that will take you where ever you need/want to go for about $1.00. You can also take the bus into town if you want to go to the market or just see the town. From Cancun you can take tours to Chichn Itza, and Xcarat and some other great places. There are a lot of beach activities in Cancun like para-sailing, jet skiing, surfing, and lots of fun things for couples, like the booze cruise and the jungle cruise across the lagoon.
