What would it take to make MARTA a better transit system?

Travel Tips
Well some people have used it and others just hate on it without a clue.....

Anyway, the biggest thing that would help MARTA is if all the surrounding metro counties got off their butts and contributed the same 1% that Fulton has been paying since before it even was MARTA.
Instead, we have Cobb who has a lame *** CCT which connects for free to MARTA, but charges for it's connection to CCT! Then we have Gwinnett, who wants all the benefits, but at little or no cost! And Clayton, just wants the busses, they could care less about the train, except the part that benefits their part of the airport!
If Metro ATL could come to an agreement once and for all that "MARTA does not equal crime come-a-calling", then they could consolidate all that tax money and expand the hell out of it. Quit fighting over who wants subsidies and who will foot the real cost and everyone put in their share.
There are many expansion possibilities for the train, but the busses actually do a great job as far as feeder routes. With an expanded train line in all directions, the busses would be able to reach so much farther and be way more efficient. They need more feeder train lines like the Bankhead line; with those going in the NW, SW, NE, and SE directions, the system could speed up so much with respect to the busses.
The problem with most people who use the system from out of state, is they want it to be like NYC's system; it never will be and I'm glad for that. It has its own set of nightmares!
And by the way, MARTA is not just the train, it includes all of the busses, including handicapped, and special transports for the elderly and disabled which most people never see or care about!
Also, you used to be able to catch a bus on the far south end (way outside 285, in Palmetto/Fairburn) and take the system through transfers, all the way to well inside Gwinnett. That's almost 100 miles one-way for $1.25 or $1.50. I don't think that sucks or is "inside the city". Source(s): Depended on MARTA for a large part of my life, from 1969 (it wasn't named MARTA then) until 4 years ago when I moved to FL. I can still remember days when we had ice storms and the only way to get around was taking the bus or train and, by God, we got there!! Other times, we just didn't want to drive and got everywhere we needed to be with no hassle, only a bit of a wait at certain stops. But we didn't have anything better to do!

Other Travel Tips
It's too late. Atlanta's infrastructure doesn't allow for a lot of growth, and it certainly wasn't ready for the early-to-mid 1990s growth it experienced. Atlanta exploded from 1 million people to well over 4 million in a relatively short period of time (10-15 years).

MARTA sucks because you have to essentially drive into the city to use it. That defeats the purpose of mass transit.
