Something to do in Atlanta Georgia?

Travel Info
We are going to be in Atlanta Georgia for two days over memorial weekend...one day for a family thing. If you had only one day to spend in the Atlanta area, what is something you must see or do?

Travel Tips
Just like M said, it all depends on your preference. There's quite a bit to do in Atlanta and the suburbs. Reguardless of where you go Memorial weekend, it will be busy. Check out this link for things happening in Georgia for that weekend, and days to come. Have a great trip! Source(s): http://www.accessatlanta.com/

Other Travel Tips
With the exception of the Fox Theater or Six Flags, there is nothing here to do that you cant do in the country. Just more of it. Instead of one or two movie theaters, atlanta has a lot. Etc etc. So nothing really to do in this ghetto, boring city in the world. That is, unless, of course, you like Hip Hop, BET, etc etc.
I'm not from Atlanta but have visited friends often. There is always the aquarium. Largest in the world. Should be a good family activity. Stone Mnt. is always interesting with the laser light show, although that weekend will be very crowded. If your'e into Gone with the Wind there's plenty of that. CNN center has a tour and what not. The Braves might be in town. There are alot of family activities, depends on your interest.
Braves game, the aquarim is amazing, CNN building is also very cool (make sure to see the FOX billboard oppistie the building, at least it was there 3 years ago), there is also a civil war thing are soemthing that is suppoed to be very intresting.
Memorial Day Weekend there's usually a jazz festival in piedmont park (www.atlantafestivals.com) and also a caribbean festival somewhere downtown. (if you are into that type of stuff)
Since it will be Memorial Day weekend when you are here, the Georgia Aquarium will be very busy. You can order timed tickets online at www.georgiaaquarium.org. I would recommend going very early or toward the end of the afternoon. It is a beautiful facility, but if it is crowded, it diminishes the pleasure of the experience. Atlanta has many, many great restaurants. Look at www.opentable.com for Atlanta and you will get an idea of the variety available and also be able to make reservations. Shopping is a big thing here. Lots of options in the city and in the suburbs. Lenox Square and Phipps Plaza are in the Buckhead area which is about 7 miles north of Downtown Atlanta on Peachtree Road. Atlantic Station is a new mixed use development in the Midtown area and has some good restaurants, several different shops and a large movie theatre. Virginia Highlands is a nice neighborhood just east of downtown and has a good selection of restaurants and shops. It is good for walking around as well. The link below is for newcomers to the city and has some links that will provide more information on different entertainment options. Enjoy your visit!
