What is good about atlanta? |
Travel Info I've been thinking alot about the future and REALLY want to move to Atlanta. What are the pros and cons of moving there? After doing research, I've found that the average salary for an intern Architect in Atlanta is just a little over 40k. Which I don; think is to bad b/c as soon as I'm licensed i can get a much better job. But can you live off of that much? Travel Tips You just answered your own question. Whats good is that Atlanta has a very healthy economy where your 40 or 50k salary will stretch to afford you a decent lifestyle. Not as cold and expensive as Chicago, many people from tradtional big cities are settling here, because its very liveable. Once you find a niche, that 40k salary might go to 80k within a few years! If you decide to build a foundation, and stay here you can find a nice condo or house for cheap compared to other major cities and enjoy the friendly people, good restaurants and decent nightlife. Expect some traffic, but thats everywhere! But heres the real question you have to ask yourself? Where else are you going to live on 40k and actually enjoy your life in this country. Not california,New york or Illinois. Detroit and chicago are gonna suck at 40k The only places 40k will get you far is Texas, Vegas, Florida(1st 3 for tax reasons) Georgia and the carolinas might be a good fit too. Good Luck! Others Man its like 15 -1 ratio of women and men...move quick.. Heres some site that may help you out... http://atlanta.about.com/ http://www.rent.com/rentals/georgia/atla... http://swz.salary.com/costoflivingwizard... Very thriving economy...lot of building going on, so demand for architects should be strong. Cost of living is low, especially compared to comparably-sized cities. Lots of good restaurants, clubs, and bars catering to young professionals. Very "green" city...lot of grass and trees instead of concrete stretching from county line to county line. Georgia State University has a very good MBA program, and Georgia Tech has strong graduate school in architecture. Ratio of women to men is something like 12-1...and the women are OUTSTANDING! (They're smart and very self-confident, though...you go there and try to pull that "playa" sh*t on 'em, they'll kick your a.ss to the curb.) Lot of leisure activities...pro and college sports teams, museums, theatre, concerts, etc. You can certainly live there on $40 thousand. You'll have to get a one bedroom apartment, and it won't be right on Peachtree Street. But you can find some nice apartments in the $500 a month range...and if you find a roommate, you can find some VERY nice two bedroom apartments in the $750 to $800 range. Used to live there, but had to move to Birmingham a couple of years ago due to a death in the family. Sure do miss Atlanta... Good luck! I lived in Atlanta my whole life until 1 year ago. I spent more hours in my car in that damn traffic. There is NOTHING that would get me to move back. |
