Does anyone know where is a good place to move in Atlanta, GA? |
Travel Info I'm planning on moving by the beginning or middel fo July, and I was just wondering does anyone know (preferably from experience) where I could move to with my 4-yr. old in Atlanta, GA that would be close to public transportation, walking distance to schools and shopping? I visited last year and I want to move there, but I will not know a soul down there, please help if you can, Thanks! P.S. I'm looking for reasonbly priced homes or apartments for rent; if anyone has any advice on how to apply for their public assistance help, I'd greatly appreciate that too. Travel Tips Everyone above has great answers. For public transport, I would recommend living as close to you can to a marta line, traffic can be murder in the ATL. Chamblee and a lot of Gwinnett County are nice, and have a great deal of really cool cultural diversity, with a lot of neat hidden shops for food and stuff in ordinary strip malls (I used to get my hair done in one for way cheap). Check out forrent.com for apts. Also, with your little one, there are a lot of great things to do one the weekends in the city. The zoo is fantastic, as well as the new aquarium. There are also a lot of plays, art exhibits, and things than can be reached with marta. Unfortunately, it's quite expensive to live in the middle of town. try to go in the center as much as possible for fun. It's a fantastic city that I think you will enjoy and a child can really flourish in. Keep your mind open and enjoy. Don't worry about knowing a soul. I didn't went I first moved there, and made friends easily. I don't live there anymore :( but miss it a lot. Good luck! Others Atlanta, Ga is a good place in itself, better than Indiana for sure! I'ts a scary thing to move to a new state w/ no family or friends & a child: I have a 3 yr old daughter. I would go online or call some real estate agents. They would know about schools, shopping transportation & price ranges for the area. Property Management businesses deal w/ rentals like condos, houses & apts they could help by calling some of them too. I would look online @ some sort of Gov.com or something to get a listing of all the Housing Authorities in the area & find out if they are taking applications for public housing or Section 8. They might also have listings of rent controlled, income based apts in the area if there is a long wait for public housing. I hope that helped. I was on housing before for a little while, it sure helped & I've seen where the places come w/ no utility charges if you fit the requirements!!!! im me I know a few things & have some papers somewhere w/ helpful websites if you'd like. the snellville and northview areas are a bit expensive...so try moving in near the norcross areas. however, those parts are a little dangerous...but lawrenceville isnt THAT expensive, im sure you could find some reasonably priced apartments..and the schools are great and the environment is also very friendly! also veryy close to the mall of ga and other grocery shops You want public transportation and a good place to live? My opinion, it first depends on your job. When I moved two years ago I looked at how long my commute to work would be (believe me, it make a difference). First, check transportation: Atlanta Maps & Transportation http://www.atlanta.net/meetingplanners/m... Second, schools: Atlanta Public Schools http://www.atlanta.k12.ga.us Third, shopping: Visiteatlanta.com http://www.visiteatlanta.org/at-shopping... Last, home: Atlanta Apartments http://www.rent.com/rentals/georgia/atla... Roswell,Ga you should stay in either downtown Atlanta, college park and river dale all which are located by the metro... i am also planning on moving to Atlanta my best friend is all ready down in the A-t-L then u wouldn't have a problem getting to work |
