Atlanta - Rush Hour Times - Weekdays - When are they? |
Travel Info We're going on Vacation the first week of June. The plan is to leave Indiana on the evening of (Thursday) May 31st. If we leave around 5:00 - we'll probably stop around Chattanooga and get a hotel room. If we leave around 7 AM - we should hit Atlanta around 9 AM - will we miss rush hour traffic? Also, if we can get by with leaving earlier - the plan is to get to Atlanta before checking in to a hotel. This will, of course, mean getting to Atlanta around 11 PM. Am I correct in assuming that the traffic won't be bad at this time? Travel Tips Rush hour traffic in Atlanta usually starts around 6:30am, ends around 10-11am, then theres a short lunch rush hour between 12-1pm, then the evening rush hour starts around 3:30pm and can last up until 7pm. Your best bet would be to arrive in Atlanta after 8pm. Others Depending on traffic accidents and such - you'll be hitting the tail of morning rush hour. Traffic may still be thick at 9 am. Traffic is at is worst mornings 7am -10am and evenings 4:45pm-7:30pm experience 6:30 am-10 am...then afternoons rush hour sometimes starts at 4:00 depending on where you are..and ends around 7 If you get to Atlanta at 9:00 am, you will not enjoy traffic. You will be hitting it square when it is bad. Rush hour is from about 7:30 to 10:00 every week day. If there is a bad accident, it is even later. As you get to the suburbs at around 8-8:30, you will be hitting traffic head on at the worst sector (I-75 south is about as bad as it gets). I would leave to get to Atlanta around 7 am or around 10-11 am. Your other option of 11 pm would be fine. No traffic, and you can get on the other side before stopping. That's what I would do if you are trying to make good time. If you just want to get there, wait until later the next morning to leave so you miss traffic. Good luck. If it is a weekday that you are arriving you aren't going to miss morning rush hour, there is still a pretty good amount of rush hour traffic out at 9am, I would say after 9:30 or 10 am you should be good. Really traffic is only bad during the week from about 7am to about 9:30am, 8:00 the worst! and the afternoon commute btwn 4:00pm and 6:30ish pm. Fridays afternoon traffic starts at noon and is pretty heavy until about 7:30, lots of people go out of town, or there is an influx of people coming into town. If you are arriving at 11pm you shoudn't have any problems. |
