Is Atlanta, GA truely a dangerous city, or is like any other big city? |
Travel Info I am moving to Atlanta, GA because It's clean, beautiful, cheap real estate, and has a good job market and social scene. However, I don't want to feel like I can't talk a nice walk down the block at night without fearing for my life. What areas HONESTLY should I avoid? Is Decatur/Druid Hills safe even though its only 10 min. from the downtown? Is crime really that dangerous? I know exercising common sense in any city is smart, but I don't want to constantly watch my back if I want to go out for a night on the town. Thanks. Travel Tips I have lived 15 mins outside of ATL my entire life. NEVER NEVER NEVER end up on Fulton Industrial, Bankhead Hwy, or MLK. Those are very bad areas. Those roads are also very long. Make sure you ahve your windows up and doors locked. Just watch your back. you will be fine. Atlanta is not THAT bad at all!! I love atlanta, and going to all the places, it's just kinda ghetto, but you will soon love it!! Oh yea, we have the best food and baseball team ever!!!!!! Others The Decatur/Druid Hills area is quite nice, fairly close to Emory University. You might consider staying at a bed & breakfast for a couple of days while searching for a more permanent place and querying your hosts to gain some "insider" information about the lay of the land, what to avoid, etc. Good luck. Atlanta is a nice city, kinda classy/upscale to me (events and stuff) and yes the druid hills area is fine I stayed there last summer..but south decatur soeone tl me was bad..like by memprial hwy, but north side is nice (perimeter area).. and Buckhead has some bad azz houses out there, i mean BIG but you wont like the west side and Bankhead, and Greenbriar areas but overall its a nice city. it has lotsa crime like any other city though.. listen to MG . she absolutely correct. Check the previous posts. I live on the South Side. You should stay away from this side of town. Here we have all of the inconveniences of living in Atlanta (smog, traffic, crime) without any of the upsides. The only reason I am here is it is close to the airport. The North side is quite nice in areas. One thing you should consider is your health. I don't know where you are moving from but the smog in Atl will kill your allergies. I never had a problem with allergies until I moved here. My brother-in-law used to live in the Druid Hills area. They never had a problem with crime. I love that area of Atl because of the international influence. |
