Is traffic terrible OUTSIDE of Atlanta? |
Travel Info If I were to live and work in marietta, roswell, smyrna, etc-will a 10 mile commute take a full hour or is this mainly true of the city itself? Travel Tips I grew up in Marietta, lived there for years. This first answer said it perfectly. It depends on 10 miles in what direction?...You would most likely need 30-45 minutes but if there is a wreck you would need longer...but say for example, you need to go towards downtown down I-75 South in the morning it could take you over an hour to get 10 miles (between 7-9a.m.)..It all just depends. One rule of thumb to always keep in mind in Atlanta, always give yourself 30 extra minutes if it is raining Others In many ways the traffic is WORSE in Smyrna, Marietta, and Roswell than inside the perimeter. In those places most people live in subdivisions that were designed to prohibit through-traffic. So the subdivision will have one or two main entrances and then streets that branch off of each other, all ending in cul-de-sacs. When everyone leaves home in the morning, traffic backs up at many intersections. It's common to see 20-30 cars in line at a traffic light. Living ITP, there is almost always an alternate route to get to where you're going. In your situation it all depends on which direction those 10 miles are, which major roads are available, etc. It may not be true that a 10-mile commute will take you an hour, but there's a chance. And leaving home 20-30 minutes earlier could make a difference. So it's tough to generalize. Totally depends on which direction you are going and at what time of day.
