What areas of Atlanta can I walk aroun dat night without owrrying of being mugged, killed or maimed? |
Travel Info I am planning on Moving to Atlanta, and I love city nightlife. I know in any city, you should be careful but I've heard that Atlanta is a very dangerous city and I find that disappointing being that may stop me from enjoying it's nightlife. Is Atlanta's crime really that bad, and if it is, why? I like walking in cities, and going for walks in parks and around my house and don't want to give up those things. I want to live within the circle north of I-20 in Decatur/Druid Hills, or even Buckhead. Please be specific with answers. thanks! Travel Tips No where Others The Buckhead area is nice, but with some iffy pockets. Just north of Buckhead is Sandy Springs section which is really nice and still in Fulton County. About 4 miles north of Buckhead Square. It's a very safe area and still close enough to get to midtown/downtown pretty easliy. if you have the money for it, sandy springs is a great area it is close to buckjead and downtown and a very nice area!!! To be honest, I don't think there are any areas of Atlanta where you can walk around at night without worrying about your safety. Ive lived in Atlanta since I was born and I live in a small suburb in Atlanta that used to be known as being safe, but that has changed drastically. Crime even happens in broad daylight here in Atlanta.Just this week a woman was car jacked at an intersection IN BROAD DAYLIGHT. And as for Buckhead ,that area is pretty nice but lately, especially around lenox mall people have been getting mugged. And even when you are in your own home you are not completely safe. As for the reason why crime is bad, there a lot of crackheads ,homeless(not all of them are bad), and people without jobs who don't want to make an honest living, out there on the streets. Especially now that the economy is not as high or good as it used to be.Please understand that I'm not trying to scare you or make you paranoid,I'm just trying to be honest and warn you. Yeah, sure Atlanta is dangerous but that doesn't mean you have to stay indoors 24/7. It can be a safe place to live. You just have to stay alert and make sure that you don't go out at night by yourself and stay in areas where there are lots of people. Some nice areas to live: Smyrna/Vinings(Inside the Perimeter), Kennesaw(15-25 minutes North of Midtown/Downtown), or Canton(40-50 minutes North of Midtown/Downtown). Decatur and Buckhead are OK too; Safe to walk around in the daytime. It all depends on where you live, so keep your options open if safety is your main thing. The county police departments were pretty helpful to me with the crime stats. I think Fulton County(Inside the Perimeter) Police Department has a website where you can type in your address and they will show criminal activity that has happened in the area by date or something. All the rest of the counties you have to call. Atlantic Station is a nice area to visit. It's got bars, shopping, etc. and security. Good Luck |
