Underground Atlanta...?

Whats the safety like there now?
My class is going on a trip and they want to go to Underground Atlanta, but I don't think its a good idea. What do you think?

I think it's a great Idea your class would have alot of fun going you should check out the MLK memorial and the Jimmy Carter mueseum. I think it would be alot of fun.

Not a good idea. Especially at night. Depending on what you are in to, there are some nice restaurants/bars in Virginia Highlands or Midtown between 15th - 17th street. But this is for more of the 25+ crowd. Unforunately, there are not many good places to "walk around" Atlanta at night.
I think its a great idea as long as you all stick together. Underground is nice if you like to shop. Its basically a mall.
Its not any more dangerouse than any other place in a big city.

I went last year and it was fine. Nobody bothered us. We walked around and shopped for hours. I don't know about at night. Make sure nobody goes anywhere alone, use the buddy system and you should be fine. I don't think it is any more dangerous than anywhere else in Atlanta.

Underground is very boring. Safety will be OK at night -- plenty of police and security around the area -- but wow, there's not much to do there.

I have to agree that walking around downtown/midtown Atlanta at night isn't very exciting. Your class might enjoy Atlantic Station, though. There is a 16-screen cinema as well as plenty of places to eat. It's a new development on 17th Street.

A Braves game would be great if they happen to be in town when you're here. There are a lot of inexpensive tickets in the upper decks.
