Why is real estate in Atlanta so affordable? |
Travel Info I live near New York City and everything here in New Jersey and New York is rediculously expensive. A tiny house on the side of a busy road in a not so nice area costs half a million or more, with very high Property Taxes. In Cities like Boston, Seattle, and sanfransisco, real estate is untouchable to the common middle class American. Why is Atlanta, a huge busy, beautiful city with a great job market, have such affordable housing? People tell me that its becasue salaries are lower, but that's not true. I did research and I can make just as much in Atlanta as any other large city...Something that would cost $750,000 here in NJ would cost $250,000 in Atlanta. Can anyone tell me why Atlanta is so affordable compared to a lot of other expensive cities? THanks! Travel Tips It is all about supply and demand, there is still enough real estate here in atlanta. You can go just outside of town and there is plenty of land left, Atlanta is still growing. Property values are constantly growing here though, in the past ten years here just outside of atlanta it has increased 1000% (yes one thousand, its not a typo). New York/New Jersey has no room to grow, there is no where else to go. Others I don't know, but I have heard the same thing about Atlanta. So, it must be true. Sellers always charge whatever the market will bear. The demand dictates cost. The demand must not be as high as in Seattle, NYC, NJ, etc. Alas, it will catch up...so invest NOW! In cities where you can buy in at the basement level, you will rake in unheard of returns. This same question was asked a few days back. Try http://hotelinfo.rediffblogs.com... There are some homes and condos in downtown Atlanta where prices are way too expensive. Just within the past few years has Atlanta become really popular to where people want to move there. The housing market goes up and down, but mostly up these days. Whatever someone starts out with as far as a price goes, everyone else follows. They market up the price higher and higher each year and eventually prices will be the same in Atlanta as they are in NYC. And its not just downtown where prices are high. Suburbs can get quite expensive also. Depends on where its located. If you've ever lived in a large city that had somewhat affordable homes, then looked at the prices in Atlanta, you'd see how much more expensive it is. Okay, I live in Atlanta, and the reason why the real estate is so affordable is the fact that nobody really LIVES in DOWNTOWN Atlanta. Everyone lives in METRO Atlanta. The homes, apartments, etc. that are in downtown Atlanta are sometimes twice as much (or even more) as if you lived 20 minutes away. Remember, Georgia is not like New York City or New Jersey, even if you drove out 20 minutes away from the heart of Atlanta you will come across some boondock type areas. The farther away from the city you live, the more affordable your houses are. That's why everyone moves here. I don't know why. It sucks here, but that's just me. I live here. |
