Question about some areas in Atlanta?

Travel Info
This is for people who actually LIVE in the State of Georgia (or Atlanta). Someone who lives in Atlanta told me the following areas are some very nice areas to live in, and that there is no (or not much) riff raff in these areas:

1. Duluth
2. Dunwoody
3. Sandy Springs
4. Lawrenceville
5. Marietta (?)

Was he telling the truth?

Also, I wanted to know if the following areas are nice to live in:

1. Midtown
2. Emory
3. Buckhead
4. Virginia-Highlands
5. Brookhaven

Thanks alot.

Travel Tips
Yup, All the areas you mention are good "safe" areas.

Midtown, Emory, Buckhead, Virginia-Highlands and Brookhaven are definite nice areas near downtown ITP(inside the perimeter-meaning inside of I-285 look at a map) but can be awfully pricey. midtown, buckhead and brookhaven are city (ny-ish) and virginia higlands and emory are more ecletic (berkley-ish)

Duluth and Lawrenceville are northeast of atlanta up I-85 (nice areas, horrible commute cheaper than ITP)

Marietta (+kennesaw and smyrna) are northwest of atlanta up 75 (nice ares, cheaper than ITP more than northeast area, still a bad commute)

Dunwoody and Sandy Springs are more or less directly north of atlanta up GA 400 (lovingly referred to as Georgia 400 as in Indy 500) nice area, sandy springs has recently incorpated itself as a city instead of an area of atlanta. pricing in this area is varied, a few good deals but definitely high areas, dreadful commute (on ga 400).

Hope that helps. I don't think you can go wrong in any of those areas. you just have to see what area fits you (and your wallet) Source(s): live in atl
Other Travel Tips
I lived in Atl for a few years, just moved to Ireland last year, so things may have changed, but here's my 2垄 worth...
Those ares in the first list are well outside of downtown and are very suburban/yuppie-ish. If you're looking for 2.5 kids, a dog, and SUV, and a 1.5 hour commute, then go for the first list (or Buckhead really...). Midtown is nice, Buckhead is overpriced, the Virginia-Highlands area has been getting more and more gentrified but it still has some character and don't know much about the others...I lived in Grant Park and loved it. Cabbagetown is a nice part too..its a bit unconventional but the location is great.
I live in Lithonia, but it may be a little to "urban" for you. I think Sandy Springs is nice. Also look in Alpharetta and Cumming.
i lived in Atlanta for a few months and Emory and Buckhead are very posh. Virginia Highlands is a nice place with lots of artistic shops and ethnic restaurants (Pad Thai)! Alpharetta is very homogenized.
Yes, the areas mentioned are nice placed to live. I reccommend Sandy Springs. Very nice and fairly close to everything. About 4 miles north of the perimeter.
I live in Lithonia too. You probably don't want to move here.
